Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia

Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia Success with iMIS Regulatory Software

Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia (CPABC) is the largest accounting organization in the province with nearly 11,000 members and 1,800 students. Its mission is to foster public confidence in the CA profession by providing exceptional education, regulation, and member programs so that chartered accountants can provide the highest quality of professional services. The CPABC licenses all public practice CA firms and conducts regular reviews to ensure compliance with standards/regulations.

As a regulatory agency, CPABC needed an out-of-the-box solution with enough power and flexibility to address our unique membership model. Before iMIS, we didn't have an online presence; now our members are engaging with us more and our staff is freed up from time-consuming, manual processes.

Challenge

CPABC had no online presence and was using a custom-built FoxPro database that needed constant tweaking to manage member data. They needed a solution that could meet most of their needs right out of the box without a lot of expensive customization. It was also important that they have an integrated system designed to meet their unique membership needs as a regulatory organization and where data could be entered in a standardized format.

Solution

iMIS became the organization’s centralized database to manage member data and ensure regulatory compliance. With it, they were able to manage, track and report on admissions, annual certifications, professional development courses, professional advisory services, chartered accounting firm licensing, peer reviews, and disciplinary hearings. Members were empowered to purchase courses and materials, submit their annual certifications, update their profiles, and pay their dues through iMIS online. CPABC also began tracking committees and other volunteer opportunities in iMIS.

Results

Because chartered accountants must belong to CPABC to practice in British Columbia, member retention is not a concern -- but member engagement is a top priority. The new online capabilities have significantly impacted member engagement rates. Members enjoy the convenience of being able to pay their dues and purchase courses online with a credit card. Staff productivity has also greatly increased since many tasks they previously performed manually for members can now be accomplished by the members themselves.
