Based in Washington, DC with several regional offices around the country, the Land Trust Alliance is a national land conservation organization that represents more than 1,100 member land trusts supported by more than 5,000,000 members. In the nation’s capital, the organization represents the policy priorities of land conservationists from every state and its education programs improve and empower land trusts from Maine to Alaska.


With iMIS, we have one system with total visibility across all departments. It’s also been great for our gift officers; when they log in, they see one page with just the donors they’re responsible for and can easily update the records. We’re finding that the fundraising staff who work with major donors are simply doing a better job of bringing in gifts now.

Challenge

The Alliance's biggest operational challenges were the data siloes that had been created because its various offices used separate and distinct databases. The staff had no remote access to data while they were on the road, data entry was slow and cumbersome, and sharing data was difficult. The systems in place also limited the ability for multiple staff to update data and the Alliance’s leadership lacked the real-time fundraising data and metrics they needed.

Solution

Since implementing iMIS, the Alliance has been able to manage its member and donor data, fundraising (including online fundraising), events, email communications and the website in a single system. They were able to create a user-friendly interface for gift officers and other staff to easily enter, track, and monitor engagement with donors — and they can do this via the web from anywhere, at any time, using any of their devices.

Results

The Alliance's data is now centralized and accessible throughout the organization. Streamlined data-entry processes are making staff more efficient. Gift officers have a simple one-page view of their specific donors and are more effective as a result.

Senior leadership now receives a weekly email summarizing the fundraising activities and moves management from the previous week — an automated notification created within iMiS that makes it easier for them to stay on top of key metrics and identify emerging trends and best practices.
